General Description: Responsible for implementing a comprehensive literacy program at assigned schools through coaching, supporting, and guiding teachers in best practices for literacy instruction.
Requirements:
- Possesses a graduate level degree - Master’s of Educational Specialist with a reading specialist endorsement.
- Holds or is eligible for a Virginia teaching license with the appropriate teaching endorsement.
- At least 3 years of teaching experience
Reports To: Principal; Assistant Principal
Essential Job Functions:
- Supports teachers in planning, delivering, and assessing quality literacy instruction.
- Implements coaching cycles to develop teachers’ capacity in best practices for literacy instruction.
- Supports teachers in lesson plan development and implementation.
- Facilitates teachers’ use of high-impact, evidence-based instructional strategies.
- Coordinates and oversees intervention for students not meeting literacy benchmarks
- Develops and monitors student progress on student reading plans
- Provides individual and/or small group instruction to meet the needs of students as applicable.
- Assists with screening, evaluating, and recommending interventions for students as needed.
- Participates in curriculum implementation and revisions.
- Identifies and responds to the literacy-related professional learning needs of individuals and groups of teachers.
- Completes other tasks, as assigned.
