General Description: The academic coach is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing a comprehensive school-wide academic program. The coach will model best practices lessons which use research-based learning strategies, provide collaborative and one-on-one support, and facilitate teacher inquiry and professional development. The coach will also work will administrators and teachers to collect, analyze, and interpret data and use it to guide instructional decisions.
Requirements:
- Recommended leadership and supervisory experience
- Master’s Degree and minimum of five years successful classroom teaching experience
- Outstanding presentation and facilitation skills
- Strong communication skills to share research based instructional approaches with teachers and administrators and provide advice, mentoring, and coaching
- Strong organizational skills
Reports To: Division Instructional Coordinator
Essential Job Functions:
- Provide individualized, classroom-based support to implement comprehensive instructional program. This will include modeling of best teaching practices in reading, math, science, ad history classes.
- Work with principals to create a school-wide focus on goals for student achievement.
- Participate fully in professional development opportunities, professional research, and reading.
- Model lessons in classrooms on a daily/weekly basis.
- Assist teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, etc. to support classroom instruction and planning, including new resources.
- Support teachers and administrators in using data to improve instruction on all levels.
- Assist teachers with planning and pacing of lessons, the development of differentiated lessons, and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of students.
- Assists teachers in their Professional Learning Communities.
- Utilizes content area and specialization skills to provide instructional leadership in curriculum planning.
- Assists principals in analyzing and interpreting test data with teachers.
- Assists teachers in using test data to focus on classroom instruction.
- Serves as a liaison and communication link between district curriculum instruction personnel and the school.
