Primary Responsibilities:

The Assistant Superintendent for Operations will oversee the planning, implementation, development, direction, assessment, and evaluation of the operations and related support activities for the school division. The position provides direct support to the Superintendent, School Board, and division administration as needed.  The Assistant Superintendent for Operations supervises the administrators overseeing the following areas: finance, school nutrition, facilities, and transportation departments.


Qualifications:

Required Experience and Education:

  •         Master’s degree in educational administration from an accredited college or university
  •         A minimum of ten years’ experience in education, with at least three years’ experience in a supervisory position

Preferred Experiences and Education:    

  •         Doctorate degree in Education
  •         School level administration experience
  •         Central office administration experience
  •         Experience working with county and state governing bodies
  •         Experience in the development of a public school budget
  •         Experience with finance, school nutrition, facilities, and transportation departments
  •         Thorough knowledge of the principles, procedures, and practices of public school operations
  •         Experience applying federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations governing public schools
  •         Experience interpreting highly technical information, writing technical materials, and speaking persuasively to implement desired actions
  •         Experience problem solving and analyzing data based on organizational objectives

Job Description

  •         Oversee operational functions for the purpose of planning for division needs, reacting to issues, and solving problems in a way that supports division goals while maintaining a safe, healthy, and legally compliant educational environment
  •         Assist the Superintendent, School Board, and division administration for the purpose of formalizing long-range plans for facilities in the evaluation of available resources, designing funding mechanisms, and projecting enrollment trends
  •         Research laws, regulations, legislation, and policies for the purpose of assessing their potential impact on division master plans, for recommending appropriate revisions to division policies and procedures, and for assisting other staff members in updating appropriate Board policies
  •         Must be familiar with instructional programs and requirements of the school division in order to provide financial and budget oversight
  •         Able to comprehend detailed information, communicate with diverse groups, maintain confidentiality, meet deadlines and schedules, set priorities, and analyze laws
  •         Evaluate programs, services, and employees
  •         Oversee and evaluate the administration of assigned departments for the purpose of ensuring effective delivery of services to schools, departments, and the community
  •         Administer division support operations through the supervisors of the finance, facilities, school nutrition, and transportation departments
  •         Approve and process all requisitions for supplies, materials, and equipment in accordance with the budget
  •         Serve on division, state, community councils, or committees as assigned or as deemed appropriate
  •         Serve as the division contact for harassment and Title IX complaints
  •         Assume a leadership role on the senior staff, assist with long-range strategic planning, assist with developing system-wide budget, plans, policies and activities
  •         Perform various duties as assigned by the Superintendent
  •         Serve as a liaison with social, professional, civic, volunteer and other community agencies and groups having an interest in the school division
  •         Remain abreast of developments and innovations in the field by reading current and cogent literature, attending professional society and association meetings and conferences, and discussing developments and problems of mutual interest with others in the field
  •         Attend School Board meetings and oversee the preparation cost studies on school operations and reports for the School Board at the request of the Superintendent
  •         Interact with parents, outside agencies, businesses and the community to enhance understanding of division initiatives and priorities and to elicit support and assistance
  •         Oversee procurement and award of contracts by competitive bidding, informal quotations, and negotiation in compliance with applicable statute, regulation, and policy
