General Description: Assists in providing leadership in creating and managing a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment where all students excel and staff is empowered.  Provides assistance to the school principal in the overall school program.

Requirements:

  1. Master’s Degree in education and administration
  2. Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Administration and  Supervision PK-12
  3.  Three years teaching experience preferred
  4. Strong leadership skills with a knowledge of secondary education, curriculum, instruction, and data analysis.
  5. Demonstrates qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, parents, teachers, and community partners.

Essential Job Functions:

 

Assists the principal in the following:

  1. Supervising the school’s teaching process and curriculum design, utilizing resources from the central office as necessary.
  2. Using current research and data to drive vision resulting in gains in student achievement.
  3. Promoting and sustaining a positive school culture and rigorous instructional program that supports students and is conducive to high performance and staff growth.
  4. Evaluating administrative, instructional, and support personnel based on division evaluation models to ensure the retention of quality personnel.
  5.  Initiating, designing, and implementing programs to meet the specific needs of the school.
  6. Maintaining a positive relationship with parents, community groups, and businesses to foster understanding and solicit support for the school and school activities.
  7.  Fostering a climate of high expectations and collaboration.
  8. Communicating and following School Board policies and directives from the superintendent and central office.
  9.  Ensuring continuing professional development for staff members.
  10.  Meeting with parents to discuss and address concerns.
  11. Providing strong leadership for the activities supporting the Patrick County Public Schools to the educational process to include establishing and maintaining a positive learning climate by ensuring proper student conduct.
  12. Supervising and evaluating the performance of school staff members.
  13. Supervising the maintenance of accurate records on the progress and attendance of students. 
  14. Advising the central office of staff needs and participating in the recruitment, employment, assignment, promotion, transfer, nonrenewal, and dismissal of licensed and classified staff.
  15. Organizing and supervising matters related to student registration, scheduling, orientation, assessment programs, special education, and the development of the master schedule.
  16. Fostering effective home and school communication by providing opportunities for parents and teachers to discuss student progress and other matters of mutual concern, and by encouraging community involvement in school activities.
  17. Supervising and evaluating all student activities and athletic programs and ensuring appropriate student discipline at all school-sponsored events.
  18.  Preparing or supervising the preparation of all reports, records, and required information/data.
  19. Preparing the school budget and monitoring the expenditure of funds.
  20. Attending division meetings as required.
  21. Conducting regular staff meetings to ensure staff is updated on policies and emerging research.
  22. Perform other duties as assigned.
